Convex Finance history and news: 2021 launch, the Curve Wars, Votium bribes, Frax, Prisma and f(x) integrations, crvUSD — and where to follow official updates.
Why a timeline matters
Convex changes through new integrations and governance votes rather than big version releases. Knowing the milestones helps you understand why CVX and vlCVX work the way they do today.
2021: launch and the Curve Wars
Convex launched on Ethereum in May 2021 with a simple offer: deposit Curve LP tokens or CRV and earn boosted rewards without locking CRV yourself. Within months it became one of the largest veCRV holders, and protocols began competing for vlCVX votes — the start of the Curve Wars.
Vote-incentive markets such as Votium appeared the same year, letting protocols pay vlCVX holders for gauge votes.
2022: expansion to other platforms
Convex applied the same model beyond Curve, starting with Frax (veFXS). The idea: aggregate a governance token, lock it, and share boost and fees with users. vlCVX holders started earning from these platforms too.
2023–2024: Prisma, f(x) and crvUSD
Convex added integrations for newer protocols such as Prisma and f(x) Protocol, and Curve's crvUSD stablecoin brought new pools and a new fee stream that veCRV — and therefore cvxCRV stakers — can earn.
What to watch now
